This study examines the internationalization and globalization of Spanish sports, particularly football in Asia and its cultural and linguistic influences. It aims to analyze the role of the Spanish language in advancing Spanish sports in Asian markets, focusing on the cultural impact of football and the use of linguistic products in education. Employing a descriptive approach, the research involves a bibliographic review and a systematic examination of institutional sources to gather data on the expansion of Spanish sport in Asia. The findings indicate that the globalization of sport has been propelled by technological progress and digital platforms, with English acting as the common language. Documented linguistic products include academic research, multilingual guides by the Instituto Cervantes and LaLiga, and the strategic application of Spanish in elite sports communication. These efforts showcase the global sports globalization process, emphasizing linguistic adaptation and promoting Spanish culture. In conclusion, the paper highlights sport as a vibrant arena for linguistic challenges and opportunities, aiding in the worldwide dissemination of the Spanish language. It points out the significance of linguistic products in overcoming cultural barriers and enhancing international relationships, with English as a pivotal lingua franca. The study offers valuable insights for further research and understanding of language and sports studies.

Pilota, played using the hands, is a niche sport with origins dating back to Greco-Roman times. In the Valencian region of Spain, an indigenous version of the sport is played with healthy participation rates despite having to compete with the major global sports. This study is aimed at understanding the current situation of this sport in terms of knowledge, transmission channels, fan experience and media consumption, as well as the brand strategy challenges it faces for building a stable and sustainable fan community. The methodology consists of a combination of quantitative and qualitative techniques. Nearly 1500questionnaires completed across three study universes, four focus groups and 33 in-depth interviews with stakeholder representatives have served to check the data obtained and discuss the challenges facing the sport in a process of dialogue. The main finding lies in the management proposals that can be applied to most of the world’s surviving traditional sports. On a theoretical level, the study presents an analysis of niche sports in Europe from the point of view of branding and sustainability.

Este artículo analiza 144 noticias deportivas sobre seis hitos políticos relativos al proceso soberanista de Cataluña publicadas, entre 2013 y 2019, en las ediciones digitales de seis periódicos españoles: los diarios deportivos Marca, As, Sport y Mundo Deportivo y las secciones de Deportes de los medios generalistas La Vanguardia y El País. Los resultados señalan una elevada presencia de términos de significación política en los cuerpos de texto y, especialmente, en los títulos de las noticias deportivas. Esto ocurre casi por igual en los seis periódicos, independientemente de su naturaleza generalista o especializada y su localización geográfica. En la mayoría de los casos la politización de los contenidos, que en un 93% versan solo sobre fútbol, se debe principalmente a los pronunciamientos políticos de los agentes deportivos sobre el conflicto catalán, algo que se hace mucho más visible cuando se trata de futbolistas, entrenadores o directivos del F.C. Barcelona.
