Sporadic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia combined with psoriasis: A rare case report and a brief review of the literature

Abstract: Background Hypophosphatemic osteomalacia (HO) is an unusual metabolic disease characterized by low concentrations of serum phosphate levels, which leads to reduced mineralization of the bone matrix. Typically, HO consists of 4 common types: X‐linked dominant hypophosphatemia (XLH), autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets (ADHR), tumor‐induced osteomalacia (TIO), and sporadic HO. Case Presentation We herein report the case of a 48‐year‐old man who developed multiple joint and bone pain and muscle weakness o… Show more

“…Adefovir is mainly excreted via the renal tubules, its long-term use is nephrotoxic, causing impaired reabsorption in the proximal renal tubular epithelial cells, leading to hypophosphatemia, further triggering osteochondrosis. 3 Characteristic symptoms of osteochondrosis include proximal muscle weakness and diffuse bone pain, which are most pronounced in the midshaft bone and lower limbs, 4 leading to symptoms resembling those of AS. It is worth noting that despite the high imaging similarity between hypophosphatasic osteochondrosis and AS, patients with AS rarely present with abnormalities in ALP and blood phosphorus levels.…”
