Spontaneous symmetry breaking in amnestically induced persistence

Abstract: We investigate a recently proposed non-Markovian random walk model characterized by loss of memories of the recent past and amnestically induced persistence. We report numerical and analytical results showing the complete phase diagram, consisting of 4 phases, for this system: (i) classical nonpersistence, (ii) classical persistence (iii) log-periodic nonpersistence and (iv) logperiodic persistence driven by negative feedback. The first two phases possess continuous scale invariance symmetry, however log-perio… Show more

“…Unlike the full memory pattern, damage to the memory has been proven to be a necessary ingredient to give rise to an important amnestic effect [23]. In fact, with the removal of short-term (or recent) memory, log-periodic anomalous diffusion starts to appear, significantly enriching the system's diffusive behavior [24,25]. Moreover, this behavior manifests itself in a region of negative feedback, which, according to common beliefs, should actually contribute to diminish, rather than increase, persistence and superdiffusiveness.…”
