“…There appears to be an association with maternal diabetes in some cases [5,6], although the pathophysiology of this relationship remains unclear. Individual cases have also been reported in which there is an association with connective tissue disorders [3]. We could find no report of an association with prenatal exposure to clozapine or other drugs.…”

“…Aneurysm of the ductus arteriosus is a recognized entity in infancy [1][2][3][4][5][6] with a reported incidence in one series of 0.5-1% in neonate autopsies [2]. There appears to be an association with maternal diabetes in some cases [5,6], although the pathophysiology of this relationship remains unclear.…”

“…The tendency to aneurismal dilation and even fatal rupture is well documented. [9][10][11] Closure of all ducts in Marfan patients is advisable to avoid this complication. In addition, eliminating left heart volume overload due to the shunt via PDA may delay or even improve aortic dilation.…”

“…PDA is a known association in Marfan syndrome and usually is not considered a cause for concern [7]. However, aneurysmal dilatation of the PDA has been rarely reported as a cause of sudden and unexpected death in infants with Marfan syndrome or other connective tissue disease [7,8]. Presumably, in this patient the aneurysm developed due to the progressive dilatation of the aortic bump as a consequence of the increased radial forces after closure of the pulmonary end of the ductus on an inherently weak wall.…”
