“…To our knowledge, to date no other data are reported in the literature on the regenerative effect of a SS/PL-based dressing on wound healing in vivo. Our data are supported by histological studies performed on human skin strips that showed the positive effect of PL loading dressings, containing chitosan glutamate, sericin, and glycine, on dermal matrix reconstruction [47]. An interesting point is derived from growth factors release results' that correlate to the tissue regeneration obtained in vivo, demonstrating that the initial burst of PDGF-BB released from Alg/SS/PL biomembrane facilitates the activation of a cascade of reactions leading to the healing process, respect to Alg/PL biomembrane that showed a gradual release of the same growth factor.…”

“…Also cyclin D1, that plays a key role in the regulation of the proliferation, was strongly induced by PL treatment, barely by PL:SS mixture and less after treatment with SS alone. Different results are reported in the literature on human fibroblast cultures [47], where SS used as supplement is able to sustain cell proliferation and the combination with PL induced a higher proliferation rate, suggesting a synergic effect between PL and SS. Further data [48] showed that the mixture SS microparticle/PL induces a high cell viability in cells derived from human nucleus pulposus.…”

“…example, in chitosan based scaffolds produced by freeze-drying, adding PRP to chitosan gel before the freeze-drying process improved the scaffold structural properties and provided a more controlled release of PDGF-BB, IGF-1 and TGF-β1 for 20 days, as compared to PRP post-embedding in the scaffold[164]. On the other hand, no major differences were observed when PL was loaded before or after freeze-drying in sponge scaffolds made of chitosan glutamate, sericin and glycine, both showing similar positive outcomes in an ex vivo human skin biopsy model[165].During the last few decades, hydrogels became one of the most popular types of biomaterials in TERM due to their inherent similarities (structural, chemical and compositional) with the native ECM of soft tissues[166,167]. A representative example of this strategy is the recently proposed photoinducible imine crosslinking hydrogel glue system based on the imine crosslinking of o-nitrobenzyl alcohol modified-HA (which generates aldehyde groups upon light irradiation) with amine groups of the proteins present on autologous PRP and also with the tissue surface[168].…”

“…The analysis is mainly attributed to the following points: firstly, the properties of dBAM and CS are very suitable as wound dressing; secondly, the dense layer of dBAM can prevent bacterial penetration and dehydration of wound surface, while allowing the drainage of wound and support a great microenvironment to accelerate the wound healing due to the rich collagen and growth factors [40], at last, the porous structure of sponge-like chitosan was in favor of wound microenvironment. It not only remains the advantage such as great absorption capacity for fluid, fills the deep wound and inhabits the bacterial growth [41,42], but also overcomes the main disadvantage such as poor mechanical property which is unfavorable for the debridement and wound healing [43].…”
