Spoke-Wheel–Shaped Deposits Over Intraocular Lens

Abstract

A 13-year-old healthy child had a history of penetrating trauma with a broomstick at the age of 6 years for which she underwent an uneventful pars plana vitrectomy and lens aspiration with posterior capsulotomy. A hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) (+21.00 diopter, Model-SQRYCF; Caregroup Sight Solution) was implanted. The IOL showed multiple spokelike deposits over the anterior and posterior surface 10 months after implantation (Figure). These deposits did not obscure the visual axis and remained stable on follow-up. The bestcorrected visual acuity was 20/30, and N6 for near, associated with a nasal retinal fold arising from the disc. The IOL deposits seen have been described as composed of calcium and phosphorus.
