“…Alginates are easy to apply, can absorb large amounts of exudate and have hemostatic properties which make them ideally suited for this type of superficial but sometimes heavily exuding wound. However, the gel formed by the alginate dressing with the wound exudate tends to dry out after a few days which can lead to some pain and discomfort [15]. There are indications in the literature that a more occlusive dressing which keeps the wound bed continuously moist may be associated with faster healing and less pain [16].…”

“…However, this method has its deficiencies as well. Secondary shrinkage of the transplant occurs with usage of thin split grafts for wound covering; besides fatty tissue does not grow under this type of transplant [6,8,13].…”

“…In certain cases there is no close contact between the smooth surface of a skin graft and granulation tissue; there are gaps and voids, where discharge from the wound collects, colonies of microorganisms form, which may cause hematomas or seromas and local inflam matory complications [4,8,9,11].…”

“…For example, some dressing products have adhesive borders and have shown positive results for donor site healing and exudate management in adults. 35 However, the integrity of these products is compromised if cut to size, which is frequently required in children's wound care because of the smaller surface area of children's wounds. Ongoing research is required to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of wound care products to reliably inform children's wound care.…”

“…[4][5][6][7] In addition, the integrity of wound care products may be compromised, if they are cut to size, which is frequently required in children's wound care. This means that there is limited knowledge on which products successfully absorb exudate and enhance epithelialization in donor site healing in children.…”
