“…The basic requirement for laparoscopy in abdominal trauma is that the patient be hemodynamically stable and show no signs of active bleeding. However, patients who fulfill these requirements also can be treated conservatively (i.e., nonoperatively) [1,7,10,11]. A partial resection is contraindicated for patients with hematologic disorders requiring a total splenectomy.…”

“…In some indications, laparoscopy is on its way to becoming standard, though splenectomy in trauma cases remains within the domain of conventional open surgery. [7] Shortly after the first publication of a laparoscopic splenectomy, experimental and the clinical partial resections of the spleen were reported. [8,9] This procedure would be indicated fairly often, though total resection is usually preferred out of fear of bleeding, so that hemisplenectomy was considered to be counterproductive.…”

“…Emergency operation carries a higher ound and cavity exploration prior to wound closure. a Laparatomy is the treatment of choice, but in some cases if the diagnosis is made early, ultrasound assisted removal with percutaneous abscess drainage or even laparoscopic retrieval may be feasible 15,16 . Most reported cases of gossypiboma occur in the presence of a normal pack count 17 , the best approach to the prevention of this problem is the meticulous implementation of guidelines for operative theatre risk as depicted in the cases presented and diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion.…”
