Splenic Sclerosing Angiomatoid Nodular Transformation Diagnosed by Laparoscopic Splenectomy—A Case Report—

Abstract

A 49-year-old female received chemotherapy for advanced right breast cancer. At the same time, she was noted to have a splenic tumor, and although there was no apparent increase in its size, fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scans revealed increased FDG uptake in this tumor. Because malignant disease including splenic metastases from breast cancer could not be ruled out, a laparoscopic splenectomy was performed for diagnosis and treatment. Histological examination showed splenic sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT), which is a rare benign splenic tumor initially reported in 2004. We report a case of SANT, which was diagnosed by laparoscopic splenectomy.
