Background: The xenoestrogen, bisphenol-A (BPA), is a worldwide food contaminant with endocrine disruptor activity that is incorporated in many plastic industries. The exposure of humans to such substances starts early during the fetal life, postnatal life and extends throughout the life of the individual. Many agencies raised warnings against the excessive use of these substances. Aim of the work: The present study was designed to determine if the usage of stem cell enhancer (SE) moderates the physiological changes occasioned by exposure to BPA in the female albino rats. Materials and Methods: This study was performed on thirty female albino rats with an average 100-120 g body weight. The animals were divided into three groups; Group I (Control untreated-group), Group II (bisphenol-A treated group) and Group III (treated group orally supplied with bisphenol-A then treated with stem cell Enhancer (SE)). Serum was separated and used for estimation of hormonal levels [estradiol, progesterone, prolactin (PRL), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH)], some biochemical parameters (liver enzymes, kidney function, glucose and lipid profile) and CA-125 and CA 15-3 tumor markers. Results: The biochemical results showed marked significant increase (P<0.01) in the enzyme activities [aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT), alanine aminotransferase (ALAT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)],urea and creatinine in bisphenol-A treated group when compared to the control group. These parameters were significantly reduced in the group treated with stem cell enhancer as compared to bisphenol-A treated group. Decline in the concentration of lipid profile with increase in high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in the stem cell treated group as compared to bisphenol-A group were observed. There was a significant elevation in prolactin, FSH and tumor marker levels concomitant with a significant reduction in LH levels in bisphenol-A treated group compared to the control group. These results were changed to values very close to control by using the stem cell enhancer. Conclusion: It could be concluded that bisphenol-A has dangerous effects on liver and kidney functions as well as on lipid profile, female hormones and tumor markers level. So, we recommended minimizing the utililizing of this compound and the use of some protective materials as stem cell enhancer to protect people from its hazardous effects.

Background and Objectives: The cyanobacterium Spirulina also called blue green algae is a class of gram negative bacteria which possesses wide range of bioactive colored components as Phycocyanin, carotenoids and chlorophyll. Spirulina is one of the microalgae containing nutrients that have been used as a functional food in addition to therapeutic and pharmaceutical applications. This study aimed to evaluate the biochemical composition of Spirulina platensis biomass and its ethanolic and aqueous extracts, as well as, evaluate the antioxidant activities of the biomass, ethanolic, aqueous and the purified Phycocyanin. Materials and Methods: The chemical compositions of Spirulina platensis were determined, as well as the antioxidant activity of extracts, Phycocyanin, Phycocyanopeptide and Phycocyanobilin using (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity. Results: Results show that biomass has higher total proteins (49.72±0.508%), total carbohydrates (10.3±0.330%), moisture content (7.5±0.685%), lipids (7.2±0.105%) and Minerals (6.9±0.130%). In biomass, the total phenols (51.20±0.25 µg/mL) and flavonoids (97.73±1.858 µg/mL) were high compared to the ethanolic (49.48±0.130 and 69.07±1.814 µg/mL) and aqueous (15.27±0.639 and 4.67±0.611 µg/mL) extracts respectively. In the phenolic compounds, pyrogallol was identified as the major compound in biomass and aqueous extract (63.85 and 12.33%) respectively, E-vanillic acid in ethanolic (18.20 %), whereas, hespirdin (3.517 and1.639%) were major flavonoids found in aqueous and ethanolic extracts respectively. The DPPH scavenging activity was found higher in ethanolic extract compared to aqueous while in bioactive, the order of antioxidant activity was Phycocyanin > Phycocyanobilin > Phycocyanopeptide. Conclusions: The study data regarding to Spirulina nutritional value, makes Spirulina an excellent choice when formulating diets and combating malnutrition. Furthermore, it is a strong antioxidant and could be used as alternative treatments as anticancer, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory agent.

The improvement on insulin therapy since it was first administered in early of 20th century is still hunting for better option to cure the metabolic disease the diabetes. Remarkable progress made to date in regard to discovery of peptide hormones like recombinant insulin, insulin analogues, oral insulin and inhaler insulin. But insulin therapy to the patients for long periods resulted in immunological complications due to the development of insulin antibodies that cause insulin allergy and many chronic disorders. Management of diabetes without any side effects is still a challenge to the medical community. Therefore, it is prudent to look for options in herbal medicine. Since its discovery a formidable amount of research, strongly suggest that plants produce a protein with most of the characteristics of vertebrate insulins and plays similar roles in plants as it does in animals. The Molecular Dynamics simulations studies of insulin suggesting an interesting result. It has two constant values at different time scales. This may be due to different chains present in the proteins or different conformations at different time scales of simulation. The relative folding energy of insulin like protein from plant source suggested that it has maximum stability at neutral pH i.e., similar to pH of human blood.
