“…In all these cases the angular momentum l of the picked-up particle was determined from the differential cross sections but its spin j was only inferred using shellmodel arguments. Previously [3] we have shown that in light nuclei this quantity can be determined from the vector analyzing powers iT 11(0) of the (d,3He) reaction. In the present work we extended the method to heavier nuclei (9~ and 144am) and utilized it for a spin determination of (i) a newly observed deeply-bound proton hole state in 89y and (ii) the previously observed l g proton hole state [2] in 143pm '…”

“…The setting of the MUST2 array was optimized for the detection of 3 H rather than 3 He, which explains the limited angular coverage. In addition to our results, we included published differential cross sections for reactions at about the same incident energy on 16 O and 18 O targets in direct kinematics [19][20][21]. Differential cross sections were calculated with the FRESCO code [22], using the coupled reaction channel (CRC) and coupled discretized continuum channel (CDCC) approaches to include couplings to the single nucleon pickup reactions and to the deuteron breakup, respectively.…”

“…C 2 S exp strongly depend on radii with ÁSF=SF % 6Ár rms =r rms in the 14 Oðd; tÞ analysis. We first reanalyzed published data for single nucleon pickup reactions at about the same incident energy in direct kinematics [19][20][21] (Fig. 2) by the CRC calculations assuming a Ál ¼ 1 transferred angular momentum, as expected from the transfer of a 0p nucleon.…”

“…8 In Fig. 1, the "peak" centered at about 10-MeV excitation in ls O can be plausibly associated with the T z = -y component of this remaining strength.…”
