Spinal cord microglia in health and disease

Abstract: The review summarizes data of recent experimental studies on spinal microglia, the least explored cells of the spinal cord. It focuses on the origin and function of microglia in mammalian spinal cord embryogenesis. The main approaches to the classification of microgliocytes based on their structure, function, and immunophenotypic characteristics are analyzed. We discuss the results of studies conducted on experimental models of spinal cord diseases such as multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, sys… Show more

“…Characterization of human spinal cord microglia at the singlecell level. To elucidate the role of spinal cord microglia in chronic pain and other spinal cord pathologies, such as MS and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) 33 , and translate this knowledge to humans, it is imperative to study human spinal cord microglia heterogeneity and transcriptional states. Accordingly, we investigated microglia at the single-cell level in human spinal cord samples from two females (53-and 68-years old) and one male (39-years old).…”

“…: х100 (а); х400 (б) В настоящем исследовании для идентификации макрофагов применяли иммуногистохимическое выявление кальцийсвязывающего белка Iba-1, который является маркером фагоцитирующих клеток [6]. Он экспрессируется в клетках микроглии/макрофагов центральной и периферической нервной системы [6,7]. В настоящей работе выявлен пик макрофагов через 7 сут после операции.…”
