Spin-tagged electron-hydrogen scattering: New measurements of ionisation asymmetries from threshold to 500 eV

Abstract: Using beams of polarised electrons and polarised hydrogen atoms we measured the spin antiparallel-parallel ionisation asymmetry from threshold to 500 eV. Our measurements are generally more precise than those of earlier studies and, more significantly, are characterised by an energy spread that is at least an order of magnitude smaller than that of the earlier work. We compare our results with several theoretical models as well as with the results from similar experiments using polarised alkali atoms.

“…In fact in the eee method we calculate e-H(ls, 2s) simultaneously. We shall see that in the case of e-He(11S, 2: 3 ,lS) ionisation, we only obtain agreement with measurements of e-He(1 1 S) ionisation, but not (1985) and Crowe et al (1990), respectively. The IERM results are due to Scholz et al (1990), and the pseudostate (PS) results to Callaway and Oza (1979).…”

“…We see good agreement with the measurements of Fletcher et al [19] and Crowe et ol. [20]. The latter work compares the asymmetries with a number of other theories.…”

“…Berakdar Representing the final state by WDS3C (W3C) yields for the spin asymmetry the results shown by the short-dashed (dot-dash) curve. The experimental data are due to Fletcher et al (1985) (full squares) and Crowe et al (1990) (open circles).…”
