Spin-independent two-neutrino exchange potential with mixing and CP violation

Abstract: We develop a new approach for calculating the spin-independent two-neutrino exchange potential (2NEP) between nonrelativistic fermions which places emphasis on the neutrino vacuum state, an area of theoretical interest in recent years. The 2NEP is a natural probe of fundamental issues of neutrino physics such as neutrino masses, flavor mixing, the number of neutrino flavors, neutrino nature (Dirac or Majorana), CP -violation, and the neutrino vacuum state. We explore the dependence of the 2NEP on the mixing of… Show more

“…However, there are claims in the literature that an effective coupling mediated by heavy W , Z or the Higgs boson leads to a measurable two-particle exchange of a very light mediator. This two-fermion exchange may induce long-range forces as pointed out in the literature [5,69,[78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85], see Fig. 3.…”

“…Y SS αβ;ij = (g LL + g RL ) α;ij (g LR + g RR ) β;ij + (g LR + g RR ) α;ij (g LL + g RL ) β;ij , where the combination of scalar coefficients is 53) and the function I SM ij (r) is also given in appendix C. We see that the Dirac potential depends on the distance as 1/r 5 only when the neutrino currents are of opposite chirality -when they are the both left-or right-handed the potential becomes suppressed as m 2 ν /r 3 . This suppression does not occur for Majorana neutrinos -the potential scales as 1/r 5 for any combination of the coefficients g XY α;ij .…”

“…In the low energy effective theory of the weak interaction, pairs of neutrinos can be exchanged, as shown in figure 2. This exchange results in long range quantum 2 forces between standard model fermions [20][21][22][23][24][25]. On distances the order of 1/m ν or larger the confusion theorem no longer presents any issue as the neutrino mass is not negligibly small at that length scale.…”
