Spin-flop transition driven by competing magnetoelastic anisotropy terms in a spin-spiral antiferromagnet

Abstract: Holmium, the archetypical system for spin-spiral antiferromagnetism, undergoes an in-plane spin-flop transition earlier attributed to competing symmetry-breaking and fully symmetric magnetoelastic anisotropy terms [Phys.
