Spin density matrix elements in exclusive $$\omega $$ ω electroproduction on $$^1$$ 1 H and $$^2$$ 2 H targets at 27.5 GeV beam energy

Abstract: Exclusive electroproduction of ω mesons on unpolarized hydrogen and deuterium targets is studied in the kinematic region of Q 2 > 1.0 GeV 2 , 3.0 GeV < W < 6.3 GeV, and −t < 0.2 GeV 2 . Results on the angular distribution of the ω meson, including its decay products, are presented. The data were accumulated with the HER-MES forward spectrometer during the 1996-2007 running period using the 27.6 GeV longitudinally polarized electron or positron beam of HERA. The determination of the virtual-photon longitudinal-… Show more

“…Exclusive and diffractive production has been studied in lepton-hadron interactions, both at the FT experiments HERMES [231][232][233][234][235][236][237][238][239][240][241][242][243], COMPASS [244][245][246][247][248][249][250][251], and the experiments at Jefferson Lab [252][253][254][255][256][257][258][259][260][261][262][263][264], and at the collider experiments H1 (see, among others, [265][266][267][268][269][270][271][272][273][274][275][276][277][278][279]…”

“…Using unpolarized nuclear targets, HERMES [89] and COMPASS [90] determined spin density matrix elements (SDMEs), which describe how the spin components of the virtual photon are transferred to the created vector meson. The SDMEs parameterize the function W(W, Q 2 , t, Φ, φ, cos Θ) appearing in the cross section for vector-meson production.…”

Top right: ratio R (longitudinal to transverse vector mesons) at HERMES [89], in comparison to calculations with (red solid) and without (green dashed) pion pole (Goloskokov-Kroll model [91]). Bottom: COMPASS SDMEs [90] describing the spin transfer from the virtual photon γ * to the vector meson (here: ω), both of which can be either longitudinally (L) or transversely (T) polarized.…”
