Spin anisotropic interactions of lower polaritons in the vicinity of polaritonic Feshbach resonance

Abstract: We determine experimentally the spinor interaction constants of lower polaritons α1 and α2 using a resonant pump-probe spectroscopy with a spectrally narrow pump pulse. Our experimental findings are analyzed with the Bogoliubov-type theory and a mean-field two channel model based on the lower polariton and biexciton basis. We find an enhancement of the attractive interaction and a dissipative non-linearity of lower polaritons with anti-parallel spins in the vicinity of the biexciton resonance when the energy o… Show more

“…Our theory is minimal in the sense that it contains precisely the terms necessary to describe Feshbach interactions due to the formation of a bi-exciton. We show that it recovers the main results of the two recent experiments probing energy shifts in polariton mixtures [24,25], supporting that a Feshbach mediated interaction was indeed observed. Moreover, we extract both the energy and decay rate of the bi-exciton state from the experimental data, and predict that the latter is much larger than can be explained from the splitting of the bi-exciton into two unbound polaritons.…”

“…We can of course also obtain even better agreement with the experimental results Ref. [24] if we use different values of E B and γ B , although this makes little physical sense. To illustrate this, we plot as a dashed black curve in the lower panel the theoretical prediction for the lower ↓ polariton using E B = −1.4meV and γ B = 1.28meV, which agrees well with the experimental results.…”

“…Implications for experiments.-As previously mentioned, the pump-probe protocol employed in the experiments by Takemura et al [32,33] is similar to our impurity scenario. However, Ref.…”
