Spermatozoa micro ribonucleic acid–34c level is correlated with intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes

Abstract: Our results demonstrate that miR-34c levels in spermatozoa are correlated with ICSI outcomes, suggesting that paternal miR-34c may play a role in the early phases of embryonic development. Levels of MiR-34c in human spermatozoa may be used as an indicator for ICSI outcomes.

“…In maternal plasma, the upregulation of miR-34c expression was directly related to good-quality embryos in D3. [ 35 ] There was a strong correlation between miR-34c expression level in sperm and the results of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment in cattle. [ 35 ] MiR-34c-positive patients are more likely to have good-quality embryo, implantation, pregnancy, and live birth.…”

“…A recent knockout study suggests that the observations could be due to simultaneous inhibition of miR‐34 and miR‐449 by the injected miRNA inhibitor . Interestingly, the levels of miR‐34c in human spermatozoa are positively correlated with better assisted reproduction outcomes by intracytoplasmic sperm injection, and sperm miR‐34c‐5p has been proposed as a noninvasive biomarker for diagnosis of male infertility …”

“…The morphological evaluation of all the embryos was performed on day 3 after oocyte retrieval. A good-quality embryo was defined as described previously (Cui et al, 2015): 7-9 cells with equally sized, mononucleated blastomeres and <10% fragmentation. A clinical pregnancy was identified by a positive plasma β-human chorionic gonadotrophin (β-HCG) concentration and the visualization of a fetal heartbeat using ultrasound after 6 weeks.…”
