Speed and Current Sensor Fault Detection and Isolation Based on Adaptive Observers for IM Drives

Abstract: This paper focuses on speed and current sensor fault detection and isolation (FDI) for induction motor (IM) drives. A new, accurate and high-efficiency FDI approach is proposed so that a system can continue operating with good performance even in the presence of speed sensor faults, current sensor faults or both. The proposed three paralleled adaptive observers are capable of current sensor fault detection and localization. By using observers, the rotor flux and rotor speed can be estimated which allows the sy… Show more

“…These schemes are proposed for an IM system [8,[28][29][30], DFIG system [9,10] and PMSG system [2,31]. The schemes in [28][29][30] are presented to isolate single sensor fault. In these approaches, a bank of observers is established to monitor each sensor fault on the basis of the rest sensors are health.…”

“…The fault detect method can isolate the incipient fault of a speed sensor and current sensors in real-time, but the performance of the state observer is degraded at very low speed. In reference [ 43 ], three Luenberger observers are used to realize a fault diagnosis of the current sensors, as shown in Figure 7 . The proposed three paralleled adaptive observers are capable of current sensor fault detection and localization.…”
