Speech Perception, Development of

Abstract: To acquire a language infants must be able to perceive its basic speech sounds. Infants are born with excellent abilities to discriminate a wide range of speech sounds. During the course of their first year, these capacities become more specialized for processing the sound patterns of their native language.
