This paper studies three of the Jordanian king’s speeches during the peak of Covid-19 in the country in order to see what kinds of mobilization strategies are used and why they were employed. Searle’s (1969) speech act theory was employed to classify and analyze the mobilization strategies used in the speeches, and then a quantitative and qualitative analysis was made to find which was most commonly used. The study found that the representative speech acts were the most frequent, followed by the directives, expressives, commissives, and declaratives respectively. It was noted that representative speech acts were used when talking about the health situation in Jordan, while directive speech acts conveyed the king’s orders, to the government and his people, to curb the spread of the virus.

This qualitative study aims to investigate the persuasive speech acts used by Jordanian advertisers in fashion, food, and technology print advertisements. The selected advertisements were transcribed and analyzed using NVivo. Commercial speech acts were classified using Searle’s (1979) taxonomy of assertives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declaratives. The researcher took care to obtain the participants' informed consent and kept subject data confidential and anonymous. The evaluation of Jordanian advertising speech activities and the linguistic and cultural influences exerted upon them was conducted using tables and narratives. The findings of this research emphasize the diverse advertising strategies employed by Jordanian organizations. It was determined that directives, statements, and demands were the three most prevalent categories of speech acts in Jordanian advertising. These methods of communication were utilized to advocate for particular client actions, to make claims about the quality of the product being sold, and to guarantee certain outcomes for buyers. The study also revealed that Jordanian businesses frequently employ hyperbole, metaphor, and rhetorical queries in their marketing communications in order to make their products or services appear more desirable to potential consumers.

This study has made use of a mixed mode design where two instruments are employed namely a corpus based tool and a questionnaire. For three months, the researchers have observed Raseef Jadara Facebook website in order to explore the use of emoji in posts and comments. The results showed that five functions were emerged from the data collected, emotive, conative, phatic, poetic, referential and metalingual. Descriptive statistics were used in conducting a questionnaire in order to show the differences between male and female students in using emoji. The results showed that females prefer using emoji in their chatting or messaging. The researchers suggest further studies to be carried out on the language functions of emoji in other social media platforms Furthermore. It is recommended for other studies to be directed into investigating all language functions.
