Spectrum of high harmonics generated by two-color circularly polarized laser field in atomic media

Abstract: Here we discuss the new effects in the light-atom interaction of an atom and two-colour (ω, 2ω) elliptically polarized femtosecond pump beams. We show that the spectrum of atomic response does not include the signal at summary frequency (ω + 2ω) and its harmonics when the frequency components of the pumping field are counter-rotating and the atom is in s-ground state. In the case when the ground state of the atom is p-state (l = 1), these components vanish in the response spectrum of the longitudinal atomic cu… Show more

“…On the other hand, 3q order harmonics correspond to the absorption of a net amount of q photons of each ω and 2ω fields, i.e., total 2q photons, preserving the parity of initial state and thus recombination by emitting a single photon of frequency 3qω is parity forbidden [46,51,52]. It is worth mentioning that the precluded harmonics at frequency 3qω are corresponding to the harmonic peaks at the integer multiple of summary frequency ω + 2ω = 3ω and are not related to the third harmonic of the fundamental (ω) field [53]. In figure 2(b), the positions of harmonic peak match well with those predicted by the selection rules as mentioned earlier.…”
