Spectroscopy of HD 86222 – a quintuple system with an eclipsing component

Abstract: We present spectroscopic and photometric analysis of the quintuple star HD 86222 with an eclipsing component. Until now three visual components A, B, and C of this multiple star were known. Four components in the A/B pair were detected during the examination of the cross correlation functions obtained from the spectra. We noticed that the visual components A and B, separated by 0. 5, are in fact two binary stars -one eclipsing pair and one spectroscopic system. The pair with higher radial velocity amplitude co… Show more

“…While the Galactic bulge systems do not have their spectroscopy done so far, many of the ASAS ones from Lee (2015) have their parameters published (e.g. Dimitrov et al 2014;Djurašević et al 2011;He lminiak et al 2009He lminiak et al , 2015aRatajczak et al 2013Ratajczak et al , 2016Różyczka et al 2013). …”

“…This is a rare example of a high-order (n > 3) multiple that contains an eclipsing binary. There are only several such known systems, including YY Gem, (Torres & Ribas 2002), V994 Her (Lee et al 2008), ASAS J011328-3821.1 (Hełminiak et al 2012), HD 86222 (Dimitrov et al 2014), KIC 7177553 (Lehmann et al 2016), 1SWASP J093010.78+533859.5 (Koo et al 2014), EPIC 220204960 (Rappaport et al 2017), V482 Per (Torres et al 2017), KIC 4150611 (Hełminiak et al 2017b), and EPIC 219217635 (Borkovits et al 2018). Such systems are usually found in hierarchical configurations, meaning that their components tend to form short-period pairs, which themselves are in large separations.…”

“…We obtained the second spectroscopic data set with the 0.5 m Poznań Spectroscopic Telescope 1 (PST1), which had already used been to observe other multiple stars with eclipsing component; in particular: DY Lyncis (Sekalska et al 2010) and HD 86222 (Dimitrov et al 2014). Despite the small diameter of the telescope, new components were detected in both cases.…”
