Spectroscopic study of the effect of a new metal chelate on the stability of PVC

Abstract: This work deals with the preparation of a new tetradentate ligand [ H 2 L] of the N 2 O 2 type, N{2[3(1-carboxyiminoethyl)-1-phenyl]butilydene-2-amino propionic acid}, and its metal complexes with Cr(III), Fe(III), Cu(II) and Zn(II) and fully characterized by H 1 NMR, C 13 NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, CHN elemental analysis, magnetic moment and molar conductance in DMF solutions. Based on the experimental results obtained, octahedral geometries of Cr(III) and Fe(III) have been suggested, while Cu(II) and Zn(II) had squ… Show more

“…The photodegration always possess high Kd values, which mean that these modified polymers degradated towards UV light. On the other side, there is another method for characterization degradation reaction; it is the measurement of the quantum yield of the chain scission (Φcs) [33]. The quantum yield for chain scission was calculated for PVC films of modified polymers by using this relation:…”

“…It is believed that O atoms can donate a lone pair of electrons to the Cu 2+ , forming a coordinate covalent bond between Cu 2+ and O owing to the high oxidability of copper. [64][65][66][67] Considering the above results, the proposed Cu(II) adsorption by N-CDs was illustrated in Fig. 6d, in which a N-CDs-Cu 2+ complex was formed due to the electrostatic interaction between Cu(II) and the -COO À , -OH and -N functional sites on the surface of N-CDs.…”

“…The GFV ligand showed two sharp bands at 291 and 236 nm, which may be assigned to the n–π* and π–π* transitions, respectively. The complexes showed two sharp bands in the ranges 290–292 and 233–237 nm which were assigned to n–π* and π–π* intra‐ligand transitions, respectively . In the spectra of the complexes, the n–π* transitions due to the O atom of two methoxy groups and one oxygen atom of furan ring of the ligand were shifted to higher wavelengths.…”
