Spectrophotometric Flow Injection Methods for Zinc Determination in Pharmaceutical and Biological Samples

Abstract: Zinc ions form a yellow complex with di-2-pyridyl ketone salicyloylhydrazone (DPKSH). This complex showed maximum absorption at 376 nm, and it was used to develop spectrophotometric flow injection methods for Zn(II) determination in different samples. Two types of flow systems were proposed. In the first system, a linear analytical curve was obtained in a concentration range from 0.217 to 4.60 mg L(-1) Zn(II), with a detection limit of 48.8 microg L(-1). In the second system, a minicolumn packed with an anion … Show more

“…It is notable that bone also contains high zinc levels [13–17] along with high citrate, as it exists in prostate cells. Some early studies had recognized that impaired oxidation of citrate was involved in bone citrate production; but the prevailing view [such as 4, 10, 11] was that limited isocitrate dehydrogenase was the cause of decreased citrate oxidation although this was never established.…”

“…DPKSH was synthesized according to a procedure reported in previous paper. 7 The solutions of DPKSH were prepared by dissolving the reagent in ethanol absolute from Merck and diluted in different ethanol concentrations when needed.…”

“…[1][2][3][4] Several strategies are used for separation and preconcentration, such as liquid-liquid, solid-liquid and cloud point extraction. [4][5][6][7] In comparison to other strategies, solid-liquid extraction provides simplicity, lower sample contamination and higher enrichment factors, in addition to simple coupling to flow systems, improved sampling throughput and minimal sample and reagent consumption. [8][9][10][11] Recently a number of sorbents have been used for the in-line preconcentration and determination of metal ions including polymeric resins.…”

“…Di-2-pyridyl ketone salicyloylhydrazone (DPKSH) is a complexing agent which has been used in the spectrophotometric determination of metal ions, including Fe(II) and Fe(III) in natural waters, 30 Zn in pharmaceutical and biological materials 31,32 point extraction. The aim of this study was then the development of a sensitive, selective and environmentally friendly spectrometric method of determination of nickel, using DPKSH as a complexing agent and cloud point extraction.…”
