Spectrophotometric Determination of Macrolides Using Bromocresol Green in Pharmaceutical Formulations and Urine Samples

Abstract: Simple and rapid methods have been developed for the determination of azithromycin, roxithromycin and erythromycin in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. The methods were based on the formation of bluish-green ion pair complexes of these antibiotics with bromocresol green (BCG) in acetonitrileethanol medium. 2:1 complexes were formed between the drug and reagent almost instantaneously with absorption maxima at 630 nm, 620 nm and 625 nm for the three drugs respectively. Under optimum conditions, calibration c… Show more

“…Simple and rapid methods have been developed by Keskar and Jugade 33 for azithromycin, roxithromycin, and erythromycin by using bromocresol green as a reagent. These complexes were formed at 630, 620, and 625 nm with linear ranges of 4-46, 3-53, and 7-73 μg mL −1 for azithromycin, roxithromycin, and erythromycin, respectively.…”

“…Azithromycin. The AZT uptake by zebrafish was assessed according to the methodology adopted by Keskar and Jugade (2015), with little modifications. It was used 8 animals/group, weighing approximately 350 mg/animal, which were euthanized (immersion in ice-slurry) and subsequently macerated in 1 mL of phosphate buffered saline (PBS), and centrifuged at 13,000 rpm for 5 min (at 4 °C).…”
