“…The sensitivity of the method is greater than that of methods based on the use of picric acid (molar absorptivity 1.42×10 3 L mol -1 cm -1 [1]), pyridine and phloroglucinol (molar absorptivity 9×10 3 L mol -1 cm -1 [9]), bis(bathophenanthroline)dicyano iron (II) complex (molar absorptivities 1.5×10 3 L mol -1 cm -1 by procedure A, 3.7×10 3 L mol -1 cm -1 by procedure B, and 1.8×10 4 L mol -1 cm -1 by procedure C [11]) and is comparable with that of an enzymatic assay (detection limits 4.9 nmol L -1 and 0.2 µg mL -1 [14]) or of fluorimetric reaction of cyanide with 2,3-naphthalenedialdehyde and taurine (which detects as little as 10 pmol cyanide in a 0.5-mL sample [12,13]), and the procedure is simpler. The reaction of cyanide with 2,2-dihydroxy-1,3-indanedione is as simple and rapid as the reaction of alkaline solutions with phenolphthalein.…”

“…The results of the determinations were in good agreement with those made with a well-known spectrophotometric method. 11,16,17 Hydroxylamine was added in the ninhydrin reagent only in the case of samples of water being analyzed. Small amounts of copper in blood and serum did not interfere with the determination of cyanide.…”

“…Cyanide may be qualitatively 8,9 and/or quantitatively 2,10,11 determined by measuring the absorbance of chromophores formed by the interaction of cyanide ion with suitable reagents. A specific method for cyanide is based on cyanide reactions with p-nitrobenzaldehyde and odinitrobenzene.…”
