Spectrofluorimetric determination of aluminium in water samples using N-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene) acetylhydrazide

Abstract: A sensitive and selective spectrofluorimetric method has been developed for the rapid determination of aluminium. This method is based on the formation of a complex between aluminium and N-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene) acetylhydrazide (HNMA). The fluorescence of the complex is monitored at an emission wavelength of 450 nm with excitation at 385 nm. Optimum complex formation occurred in Tris buffer at pH 6.0. Under the optimum conditions, linear calibration curves were obtained from 50 to 800 ppb. The d… Show more

“…Aluminum ion is thought to be the reason for neurological disorders and it causes changes in enzymatic reactions by affecting neurofibrillary and neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. As a result; diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and dialysis encephalopathy occur (4). Aluminum is also thought to have the ability to replace iron and other metals in proteins found in living things (5).…”

“…Industrial processes release aluminum into the air, water, and land through solid waste emissions. High levels of aluminum exposure may contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and kidney disease (Al-Kindy et al, 2015; ATSDR, 2008).…”
