Spectral shifts of evanescent waves generated by the scattering of polychromatic light in the near field

Abstract: Evanescent waves generated by the scattering of polychromatic light using a spatially deterministic medium and their near-zone spectral properties, to the best of our knowledge, have not been addressed in the literature. On the basis of the first-order Born approximation, we formulate expressions for the near-zone scattered wave by assuming that the scattering potential of the medium is of the Gaussian profile. The dependence of the spectral shift on effective sizes of the scattering potential (ESSP) is shown … Show more

“…Notably, the properties of evanescent fields scattered from a particulate medium have become very promising research targets, and they have attracted substantial interest in the last two decades. Typical studies on this topic included the development of novel theoretical models to analyze the scattering properties from a variety of particles and reveal the relations between the scattering properties and the scattering potential of these particles [10][11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…In addition to the media's correlations that were capable of inducing changes in properties of the scattered field, beams of certain types also influenced the scattered field properties [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in non-diffracting beams after the introduction of Bessel Beams by Durnin et al [18,19].…”

“…It is worth noting that the spectral switch, which defines the phenomenon whereby the spectral lines of the scattered field make a rapid transition from a red shift to a blue shift (or vice versa), can be realized in some special cases [15,16]. In addition to the far-zone scattered spectrum, the near-zone scattered spectrum has also been addressed and the spectral changes of evanescent waves have been analyzed [17]. Recently, the incident plane waves in the subject of spectral changes were generalized to various laser beams such as rectangular Gaussian Schell-model beams [18].…”
