Spectral radiative analysis of bio-inspired H2 production in a benchmark photoreactor: A first investigation using spatial photonic balance

Abstract: A bioinspired photocatalytic system producing H 2 in a photoreactor was evaluated. A spectral radiative analysis of the system was carried out. Evidence was obtained that linear kinetic coupling with light absorption rate occurs. The bio-inspired catalyst reveals strong capabilities from an engineering analysis.

“…Local coupling is required because the local volumetric rate of photons absorbed (LVRPA) field AðrÞ is highly heterogeneous when most of the incident radiation is absorbed in the vessel, which is the aim of photoreactive processes. Nevertheless, if the quantum yield φ does not depend on the radiation field, which is often the case for molecular photoreactive systems as studied in this article, averaging these two rates at the spatial scale of the enclosure (the scale of physical observable and measured quantities) is straightforward and leads to a linear thermokinetic coupling law [18,19]:…”
