Spectral Properties and Deactivation Processes of Anionic Porphyrin Coupled with TiO2 Nanostructure

Abstract: Meso-tetrakis (4-sulphonatophenyl)porphyrin (TSPP) and its complex with TiO 2 were studied by absorption, fluorescence, and steady-state and time-resolved photothermal spectroscopy. A TiO 2 -TSPP complex was obtained by covalent bonding of anionic porphyrin with the nanostructural form of TiO 2 . The TiO 2 colloidal carriers modifying the thermal energy distribution and considerably influencing the photophysical processes were found to lead to changes in the population of the porphyrin singlet and triplet stat… Show more

“…By means of the LIOAS method, time-resolved photothermal signals were recorded. Technical specifications and more details of LIOAS apparatus were described elsewhere [12]. For LIOAS experiments, HP was dissolved in acetone, ethanol, and methanol (purchased from POCH, Poland).…”

“…Analysis of the LIOAS signal gives information on the non-radiative fast deactivation of the excited singlet states, on population of the dye long-lived states, and on the dye ability to generate the reactive oxygen species [12]. The photophysical parameters obtained are given in Table 1.…”

“…The heat generated as a result of conversion of light energy absorbed by the pigments of cyanobacteria was measured by the photothermal technique. To record the photothermal signals, the laser-induced optoacoustic spectroscopic (LIOAS) method [24][25][26][27] was applied. The LIOAS setup (described in details in [28]) used the nitrogen-dye laser (GL-3300/GL301, Photon Technology Int., Birmingham, NJ, USA) as the excitation source.…”

“…In conclusion, for a more stable porphyrin, the necessary criteria are porphyrins with mesosubstituent having positive Hammett constant, metallo-porphyrins d0 or d10, regardless of the valence central, most unstable being the porphyrin with Mg, Zn, Cd, Pb, Al, aromatic solvents, and with OH groups or NO 2 [73,74].…”
