“…The polarization occurring upon irradiation results from the electron donor-acceptor interaction between the electron-donating substituents at the 3-position and the electron-accepting carbonyl group of the chromophorous system [19,20]. The bands of absorption and emission of the dyes largely depend on the electron donating power of the substituents at the 3-position.…”

“…According to the spectroscopic research, a significant increase in the quantum yield of fluorescence for 3‐acetamidobenzanthrone and 3‐methoxybenzanthrone going from toluene to N , N ‐dimethylformamide (about 3.5 times) is a consequence of the decrease in the polar media excited singlet electronic level and increase in triplet level; this reduces the probability of intersystem crossing process and increases the quantum yields. In contrary, at non‐polar media the intersystem crossing from the vibrational levels of S‐state occurs quite effectively, thus 3‐acetamidobenzanthrone has low emission quantum yield.…”

“…Picture was obtained with 488 nm laser. Magnification ×200; laser power 38.9; pinhole 158.4 transfer in benzanthrone dyes occurs from the electron donor-acceptor interaction between electron-donating substituents at a C-3 position and the electron-accepting carbonyl group of the chromophoric system (Khrolova et al, 1984).…”
