The Wikki Warm Spring (WWS) is located on the Kerri-Kerri formation of tertiary age. This forms part of the Benue Basin, which links up with the Chad Basin in the north and extends southwest to the Anambra Basin in Nigeria. The stratigraphy of the WWS region consists of alluvium, the Kerri-Kerri formation, the Gombe formation, the Pindiga formation, the Yolde formation, the Bima formation, and basement rocks as the oldest. We estimate the depth to the bottom of magnetic sources (DBMS) in the WWS region using the fractal sources distribution approach on aeromagnetic data to identify the geothermal system of the WWS region. The adopted computational method is based on statistical methods of depth determination from the radial power spectrum assuming a fractal distribution of magnetic sources. The average estimated DBMS at the WWS source location is 10.72 ± 0.54 km. The obtained results imply an average thermal gradient of 54.11 °C km -1 and heat flow value of 135.28 mW/m 2 . Generally, shallow DBMS values are obtained in the northeastern region of the WWS area and these increase towards the southwestern region when regional variation patterns of estimated depths are considered. The generally shallow DBMS obtained in the study area is attributed to magmatic intrusion or diapirism in the subsurface and emphasizes the effects of large-scale tectonic events, particularly the basin-initiating event, as major influences on the thermal history. Results will contribute to decisions on where to drill boreholes for further geothermal energy exploration in the region.

This paper proposes an interpretation of the Bouguer gravity and magnetic anomaly map of the Yozgat Batholith and its surrounding area (north central Anatolia) for determination of crustal and geothermal structures. In the study area, the Moho and Conrad depths based on a relationship between Bouguer gravity anomaly and seismically determined crustal thickness were estimated as 34-39 km and 19.5-21.5 km, respectively. The crustal thickness of the study area increases from west to east. The estimated Curie point depths in the study area by means of spectral analysis of the magnetic data vary between 10.4 and 19.5 km. The shallow depths indicate that the magnetization is restricted to the upper crust in the study area. In addition, the heat flow values calculated for a thermal conductivity of 2.7 W m -1 K -1 range from about 80 to 150 mWm -2 . The shallow velocity structures in central Anatolia are consistent with the estimated high heat flow values in the upper crust and associated with comparatively high negative Bouguer gravity anomalies.

This study attempts to estimate the Curie point depth (CPD) using the centroid and forward modelling of the spectral peak methods in the Sabalan geothermal field in Ardabil, NW of Iran. The reduced-to-pole aeromagnetic data were divided into 18 overlapping blocks of the sizes of 100 × 100 km. In the centroid method, the average depth to the top of the deepest crustal block, Z t , was first computed by linear fitting to the second longest wavelength segment of the power spectrum of aeromagnetic data. Then, depth to the centroid of the deepest crustal block, Z 0 , was computed by linear fitting to the longest wavelength segment of the power spectrum of the aeromagnetic data. The depth to the magnetic bottom was obtained from Z b = 2Z 0 − Z t . In the forward modelling of the spectral peak method, the modelled spectra fitted to the observed spectrum iteratively and Z t and Z b were finally estimated. According to the obtained results, the CPD varies from 10 to 18.6 km. The Curie temperature of magnetite was used to determine the thermal gradient and the heat flow in the area. The study area is found to have a great energy potential in the west, northwest and the southwest of the Sabalan with shallow CPD, high geothermal gradient and heat flow.
