“…Due to nuclear activity, the galaxies drawn from the list of the First Byurakan Survey (Markarian 1967, 1969; Markarian & Lipovetskii 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976a,b; Markarian, Lipovetskii & Stepanian 1977a,b; Markarian, Lipovetskii & Stepanian 1979a,b,c; Markarian et al 1981; Kazarian & Khachikian 1985), and which are collectively known as the Markarian galaxies (Weedman & Khachikian 1968, 1969; Mazzarella & Balzano 1986), possess strong blue excess and ultraviolet (UV) continuum radiation. Markarian galaxies do not form a homogeneous group of galaxies but span all Hubble types, Zwicky galaxies, Haro objects, BL Lacs, etc.…”
