“…Recent reports in the scientific literature indicate a constant decline in the number of tonsillectomies annually performed in Germany, either with (ATE) or without (TE) adenoidectomy. In contrast, the number of tonsillotomies (TOTO) performed per year had significantly increased while the total number of abscess-tonsillectomies (ABTE) and transoral incisional drainage (ID) to resolve peritonsillar abscess (PTA) had remained almost unchanged [ 1 ].
