Specifics of Application of Cutting Ceramics with Functional Coating in Turning of High-Strength Materials

Abstract: This paper reviews some of the features of application of cutting ceramics with Ti-TiN-(TiAlZr)N coating for machining of high-strength hardened alloy steel. The study has revealed the conceptual role of coatings on ceramic cutting tools, which can serve as a scientific and technological basis for further improvement of the ceramic tool. It has been found out that the coating increases the antifriction properties of ceramics both due to lower coefficient of friction of the coating material and to reduction of … Show more

“…It is found that in action of external thermomechanical stresses on contact areas of cutting tool, as well as in development of wear centers, particularly on flank face, the ceramic tool is exposed to complex stress effect, resulting in brittle fracture of its contact areas and cutting edge [13][14][15][16][17][18].…”

“…To produce modifying effect on working surfaces of ceramic tool, the study involved the innovative process, named as "filtered vacuum arc deposition" and implemented at unit VIT-2 [10][11][12][13]. The use of the above method does not result in structural changes in ceramic material and ensures the following:…”

“…Отсутствуют инженерные методы расчета керамических изделий, учитывающие специфику их напряженного состояния и разрушения в определенных условиях эксплуатации [5]. Еще более проблемным является процесс проектировании керамических изделий с одно-и многослойными покрытиями [6][7][8][9]. Функциональные покрытия, залечивающие поверхностный слой керамики, значительно усложняют напряженное состояние и процесс разрушения керамических изделий [10][11][12][13].…”
