“…The results reported above confirm previous reports (Fithian et al 1981, Murphy et al 1981, Dubertret et al 1982) that Langerhans' cells can be identified reliably in normal skin biopsies using monoclonal antibodies such as NAr/34 (anti-cortical thymocyte equivalent to OKT6), CR3/43 (anti-HLA-DR) and 2D I (anti-leucocyte common). These studies have now been extended to assess the distribution and morphology of Langerhans' cells in a variety of benign and malignant skin tumours.…”

“…This method is more sensitive than the peroxidase-antiperoxi- 4 9.0-17.0 23.8±8. 6 13.0-34.0 dase (PAP) method when demonstrating polypeptide hormones, even at high dilutions of the antibodies (8). Cell bodies and dendrites ofLC are clearly demonstrated with the OKT6 antibody using this label method.…”

“…At present, T-6 antigen is accepted as the most valuable surface marker for Langerhans eells and their immediate relatives (25,27,29). Fn this respect HLA-F)R antigens are less useful in pathological specimens as they may be induced to appear abnormally on the surface of lumphocytes (30,31), keratinoeytes (32-.37), and even malignant melanocytes (38).…”
