“…The ODS system is more complicated process that the extraction of SCs in one step without oxidation, however with the former the efficiency of extraction generally increase considerably with the same IL at the same ratio, especially for water stable ILs. Different ODS processes have used different oxidants such as molecular oxygen , H 2 O 2 in combination with polyoxometalate (Gao et al, 2006, AlShahrani et al 2007, and acetic acid , ozone (Zaykina et al, 2004) and tertbutylhydroperoxide (Ishihara et al, 2005). The extraction of oxidized SCs can be carried out using conventional volatile and toxic organic solvents, or using a combination of catalytic oxidation and extraction with ILs is regarded to the "green desulfurization system".…”

“…In this process, the corresponding polar sulfoxides and sulfones are produced by oxidation reaction of different sulfur compounds under mild conditions which can be easily removed by solvent extraction or by adsorption . To date, different oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide, organic peroxides, nitric acid/NO 2 , ozone, molecular oxygen, and potassium superoxide have been used in ODS. Among these, H 2 O 2 has been widely used as the oxidant in the oxidative desulfurization because of its cheap, high oxygen activity, commercially available, non‐polluting, low corrosive and green (production of water as by product) properties.…”

“…Various oxidants, including H 2 O 2 , organic peroxide, potassium superoxide, molecular oxygen and ozone, are employed in ODS processes. Among these, H 2 O 2 is an attractive and environmentally friendly oxidant owing to its low cost, high availability and harmless byproduct.…”
