“…assimilation was noticed few hours after pathogen contact with its host, and such a decrease remained up to 12 days after P. viticola inoculation in resistant cultivars Solaris, Cabernet Blanc and Phoenix. This behavior could result from the downregulation of proteins related to photosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism as previously reported in resistant grapevine cultivars (Figueiredo et al, 2017;Nascimento-Gavioli et al, 2017). A fast and massive transcription of signaling genes affected by P. viticola has also been reported on Rpv-bearing in grapevine cultivars (Fröbel et al, 2019).…”

“…Differences in susceptibility were also seen between different species of Vitis, as earlier mentioned by several authors (Yu et al, 2012;Boso et al, 2014). Figueiredo et al (2017) explained that following inoculation increase of hydrogen peroxide levels, cellular redox regulation, establishment of ROS signalling and plant cell death seem to be key points differentiating the resistant genotype. Lipid associated signalling events, particularly related to jasmonates appear also to play a major role in the establishment of resistance.…”

“…Infection also slightly decreased chlorophyll content and SPAD, although chlorophyll uorescence did not appear to be affected. This biotroph has been shown to lower the photosynthetic rate (Jermini et al 2010;Figueiredo et al 2017) through the loss of chlorophyll, the downregulation of chlorophyll a/b binding protein, chlorophyll synthase and Rubisco and the upregulation of chlorophyllase (Gamm et al 2011). Just 2 days after inoculation, the chlorophyll losses recorded were still small, likely because the chlorophyll content only decreases within the infected lesion (Moriondo et al 2005;Gamm et al 2011), and might still have been insu cient to affect the chlorophyll uorescence (Cséfalvay et al 2009).…”
