Species diversification in the Mediterranean genus Chiliadenus (Inuleae-Asteraceae)

Abstract: Chiliadenus is a small genus in the Inuleae (Asteraceae), consisting of ten species with allopatric distributions along the southern edge of the Mediterranean Sea. The different species have restricted areas of distribution, with only one being more widely distributed. The first molecular phylogenetic study of the genus with complete sampling, as well as a biogeographic analysis of the origin and biogeographic patterns leading to the current diversity of Chiliadenus is presented. Results confirm Chiliadenus as… Show more

“…However, in addition to IGS and introns, we identified a number of coding regions that may prove useful for Salvia phylogenetics. The four protein coding genes with highest π values identified by our study (accD, matK, ndhF, and ycf1) have all been used for phylogenetic inference (Zhang and Li 2004;Chang-Li et al 2012;Cruz et al 2013;Qian et al 2013;Luo et al 2014;Patil et al 2015;Srikulnath et al 2015;Uchoi et al 2016;Devi and Chrungoo 2017;Bengtson and Anderberg 2018;Deng et al 2018;Lei et al 2018;Satoh et al 2018;Veranso-Libalah et al 2018), but only matK and ycf1 Sytsma 2011, 2012;Hu et al 2018) have been utilized in sages.…”

“…The sampled plant species were divided into two life-forms, perennial and annual according to the flora of Morocco [18][19][20]. All plant species belong to the most important groups of worldwide spontaneously distributed in the Mediterranean region [50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57]. Many authors reported their occurrence in both uncontaminated and contaminated soils, including mining sites ecosystems.…”

“…Chiliadenus genus belongs to the Asteraceae family, which is a small genus that includes ten species mainly distributed throughout the southern edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Most of its species grow in rocky places and semidry land distinguished by pappus with double rows of hairs, the outer row is very short setae while the inner is equaling the corolla [1,2]. Chiliadenus iphionoides (Boiss.…”
