“…The Western Ghats are renowned for their exceptionally high human population density and pressure and their abundant biodiversity (Arun Kanagavel et al 2016). Conservation biology works towards isolating particular groups and geographical areas from anthropogenic disturbance in order to stop further biodiversity loss (Ilkka Hanski 2011) by understanding and maintaining species assemblages, and investigating the composition, quantity, and diversity of freshwater ecosystems on a regular basis for biodiversity conservation and management (Eckehard et al 2017;Ajagbe et al 2021). The main objective of this present research is to describe the sh fauna diversity and distribution of the ATR of Southern Western, examine the threats to freshwater sh diversity and evaluate its distribution patterns in relation to physical habitat elements, including altitude and stream reaches, and nally identify the main risks to the sh fauna and recommend appropriate conservation measures.…”

“…Freshwater sh are considered excellent indicators of altered hydrological regimes (Suman Jumani et al 2018); their habitats are currently among the most endangered ecosystems in the world due to our growing reliance on water supply (Rohitashva Shukla and Anuradha Bhat 2017; Vörösmarty et al 2010) and freshwater sh are diversi ed yet endangered (Min-Ho Jang et al 2003;Moliner Cachazo et al 2023). The increasing human accomplishments on inland waterways have an impact on species reduction and displacement, and worldwide, sh resources have fallen considerably and indigenous species are in peril (Ajagbe et al 2021). In order to decide which places should be protected, it may be useful to identify locations where there is still signi cant sh biodiversity (Han Liu et al 2020).…”
