Spatiotemporal Variation of Phytoplankton Community Structure in the Crater Lake Barombi Kotto, Cameroon

Abstract: Salacia reticulata which is a well known plant for antidiabetic properties were subject to elicitor application. The field grown plants were sprayed with aqueous extracts of 2% Aspergillus niger mycelium as biotic elicitor and 0.2mM salicylic acid as abiotic elicitor. Elicitation of phenolics and flavonoids were marginal in both the treatments. Formation of seven new compounds in biotic elicitor treatment and eight new compounds in abiotic elicitor treatment was evident from GCMS studies. Significantly Ala-Gly… Show more

“…The riparian forest describes the stretch of natural forest that surrounds Lake Barombi Kotto, a shallow fresh water crater lake located 100 m above sea level in a complex geological arrangement of volcanic rocks. It is found between latitude 4˚27'49.3''N and 4˚28'29.2''N, and longitude 9˚15'56.1''E and 9˚15'36.4''E in Meme Division of the South West Region, Cameroon [21]. The continuous and adequate availability of both ground and shallow water table around the Lake Barombi Kotto allows the establishment and long-term existence of different plant species, thus justifying their classification as riparian vegetation (Figure 1).…”

“…Moreover, our recordings were high compared to that reported in the mangrove environments of Kerala situated in India [74]. It is also the case for lakes such as the Crater Lake at Barombi Kotto (North-West Cameroon) where eight species belonging to seven genera were recorded [75]. It is possible that patterns in Nyong and Kienké river mouths are dependent on local environmental conditions or the sampling methodology and design.…”
