Spatiotemporal coupling investigations for Ti:sapphire-based multi-PW lasers

Abstract: Emerging multi-PW class lasers and their envisioned laser plasma interaction applications in unprecedented intensity regimes set a very demanding frame for the precise understanding of the finest properties of these systems. In this work we present a synthesis of simulations studies on a series of less known or even completely disregarded spatiotemporal effects that could potentially impact greatly the performances of high intensity lasers.

“…[ 329 ] Besides, some other forms of the spatiotemporal/‐spectral coupling distortion throughout a CPA or OPCPA short‐pulse TW/PW laser recently have been studied and introduced. [ 330–333 ] Fortunately, up to now, lots of spatiotemporal measurement methods have been invented by many groups, [ 334–354 ] especially single‐shot ones, [ 355–358 ] which can be directly applied to completely reconstruct the optical field in space–time and then to observe this complex distortion.…”

“…It consists of a motorized linear translation stage, some high-quality uncoated wedges, and high-reflective mirrors [9]. After the EAM, an achromatic telescope is installed to avoid the damage of compression gratings while not causing pulse front distortion [41,42]. Lastly, the amplified seed pulses with a beam size of around 150 mm are injected into a four-grating compressor.…”

“…Figure 2d,e show the experimental results of the beam-smoothing effect using the asymmetric four-grating compressor configuration in a Ti:sapphire PW laser [25,26]. A 2 mm-wide paper strip is placed directly before the asymmetric four-grating compressor, which is used to induce strong LSIM to the input laser beam due to the diffraction effect.…”
