Spatiotemporal characteristics of ultraviolet radiation in recent 54 years from measurements and reconstructions over the Tibetan Plateau

Abstract: Based on measurements of ultraviolet radiation (UV) for the period of 2005–2014 that were obtained from the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network, we developed an efficient model to estimate UV radiation under various sky conditions. This model can provide an accurate reconstruction of UV radiation data with absolute mean bias error less than 9.65%. We combined this reconstruction model with a hybrid model to obtain the historical data set of daily UV radiation from 1961 to 2014 at 37 weather stations belonging t… Show more

“…Latitudinally, there was an increasing trend from south to north. The daily UV radiation presented a decreasing trend from 1961 to 2014 throughout China, except over the Tibetan Plateau region (Liu et al 2016(Liu et al , 2017a. There was a decreasing linear trend from the early 1960s to the late 1980s, which then tapered off and reached a steadily low level from the 1990s throughout China.…”

“…Conventional statistical methods often focus on a single ground site [29] by establishing the relationship between satellite observations and ground measurements. Wang et al [13] used the UV radiation observation data at Yanting, China, to establish the regression relationship between the hourly observed UV irradiation and relative optical air mass, cloud modification factor, and clearness index; the root mean square error (RMSE) under all-sky conditions was 10.3%.…”
