Spatio-temporal variations in water quality, hydrochemistry and its controlling factors in a perennial river in India

Abstract: The spatial and temporal variations in the hydrochemistry of the Sutlej river in the Indian Punjab were studied based on water quality parameters analysed during pre- and post-monsoon seasons of the years 2017 and 2018. The grab water samples were collected from the river using stratified random sampling and analysed for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), carbonate (CO3−2), bicarbonate (HCO3−), chloride (Cl−), nitrate (NO3−), total hardness, calcium (Ca+2), sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) using standard methods… Show more

“…Hydro-chemical evaluation in groundwater was explains the presence of various ions concentration, dominancy and their relations among each other's. Correlation studies and Piper trilinear diagram is one of the important tools to assess the hydrochemistry of groundwaterand helps to understand the dominant ionic form in groundwater (Setia et al 2021;Xu et al 2019;Zhang et al 2020;Tiwari et al 2021;Kumar 2021;Nematollahi et al 2018;Zhang et al 2021;Imen et al 2021;Kukrer and Ekrem 2019;Misaghi et al 2017).Whereas, hydrogeochemical evaluating indicates is illustrated that possible controlling factor for various ions in groundwater either from silicate weathering, carbonate weathering or evaporite dissolution etc.…”
