“…There was a higher number of specimens, both 0+ and 1+ years old, at night than during the day. Gutiérrez‐Martínez et al (2021) found no significant differences in the abundance of the species based on the time of the day. In studies conducted on its congener Trachinotus carolinus , there are disparate results, with some authors finding higher abundances during the day (Contente et al, 2023; Ross et al, 1987) and others at night (Félix‐Hackradt et al, 2010).…”

“…In the size distribution, it was observed that the most frequent sizes were between 11 and 15 cm TL and between 1 and 5 cm TL. Gutiérrez-Martínez et al (2021) found that the most abundant sizes in the surf zones of the Gulf of Cádiz in August and September were between 1.5 and 6.5 cm (SL), with these sizes increasing in the subsequent months, noting that the pompano uses these beaches throughout the year to develop and grow, which could be the reason that explains the two main size groups in our work, being 1-5 cm captured in the summer months and 11-15 cm in the rest of the year, as a result of the growth of these new recruits, being from 15 cm The results show that the 0+ and 1+ age classes were predominant among the captured specimens, together representing approximately 97% of the total individuals, with significant differences in age classes between the time of the day and the seasons of the year.…”

“…Although eDNA and BRUV surveys hold promise for monitoring surf zone habitats, evaluating how well these methods perform compared to traditional seine surveys and each other is a crucial information gap [27,74,75]; to date, only two studies [73,76] employed eDNA to assess fish biodiversity in surf zones habitats. To address this gap, we compared the ability of seine, BRUV, and eDNA methods to describe surf zone fish communities using a series of surveys where we simultaneously employed all three methodologies at 18 open coast surf zones associated with beaches in southern California.…”
