Spatial Network Structure of China’s Provincial-Scale Tourism Eco-Efficiency: A Social Network Analysis

Abstract: While tourism eco-efficiency has been analyzed actively within tourism research, there is an extant dearth of research on the spatial network structure of provincial-scale tourism eco-efficiency. The Super-SBM was used to evaluate the tourism eco-efficiency of 30 provinces (excluding Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). Then, social network analysis was employed to examine the evolution characteristics regarding the spatial network structure of tourism eco-efficiency. The main results are show as follows. Firs… Show more

“…The current social network analysis method mainly includes the Granger causality test and gravity model for determining the strength of spatial connections, but the Granger causality test is sensitive to the lag order and cannot describe the dynamic characteristics of the association network. Therefore, this paper uses the revised gravitational model to measure the gravitational value of the ecological efficiency of cultivated land utilization between cities [ 35 ]. The calculation formula is: …”

“…At present, academic research on sustainable tourism [16][17][18], low-carbon tourism [9,10], and green ecotourism focuses on tourism eco-efficiency [13,15], the interaction between tourism eco-efficiency and tourism economy [15][16][17][18][19][20], etc.…”

“…First, researchers introduced the concept of eco-efficiency into the framework of sustainable tourism [15,21,22]. As a completely new field, the role of tourism eco-efficiency is to enable the diversification of tourism products and services, reduce waste of resources, reduce pollutant emissions, provide core indicators for effective assessment, and advance the sustainable development of the tourism sector [17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. From the existing research results, researchers have measured tourism eco-efficiency using carbon dioxide emissions as a measure of tourism's impact on the environment and the ecological footprint as a measure of tourism's impact on the environment [14,15,24].…”

“…Although the dichotomous method is convenient in terms of data collection and input, image output, and a sparse study structure, the premise is that the appropriate threshold is selected. Referring to existing research[33,35], the average value of each row of data is taken as the threshold and binarized to construct the spatial correlation matrix of TES. If the strength of the connection exceeds the threshold value, the value is 1, suggesting that there is a TES connection between provinces; otherwise, the value is 0, indicating that there is no connection.2.1.4.…”
