Spatial distribution of groundwater quality with special emphasis on fluoride of Mandvi Taluka, Surat, Gujarat, India

Abstract: The present study deals with the groundwater quality with respect to F -in the Mandavi Taluka of Surat city with an objective to analyze the spatial variability of ground water quality parameter. A total 57 representative groundwater samples from different bore wells and hand pumps were collected during pre-monsoon. Samples were analyzed for various physiochemical parameters including fluoride. GIS technique is adopted to prepare DEM and spatial distribution map of fluoride to represent fluoride concentration … Show more

“…to study the occurrence of groundwater F levels and related health issues. 16,17 The present study aims to provide a more accurate view of the groundwater issue in Sri Lanka. The study aims to identify both hazardous and safe groundwater sources, and suggest feasible and economically viable solutions that can be implemented at the community level to mitigate dental fluorosis in Sri Lanka.…”

“…Apart from the geological and hydrogeological factors, the dry climate is also acting as an important factor of fluoride enrichment (Gupta et al 2005;Samal et al 2020). This information is confirmed from Western Indian states Gujarat (Prajapati et al 2017), Rajasthan (Kesari et al 2021) and south Indian states Tamil Nadu (Sajil Kumar 2017) and Andhra Pradesh (Adimalla et al 2019).…”

“…It is clear that potential hydrogen is one of the causes to be found higher fluoride in the study area, while some samples in the study may have low fluoride concentrations because the study area under the part of the semiarid environment and solubility process of F − in groundwater vary from one rock formation to another. If pressure and temperature was under normal conditions, fluoride-bearing minerals have been sparingly soluble in water; under certain physicochemical conditions, dissolution processes are too fast (Prajapati et al 2017;Adimalla et al 2019d;Vikas et al 2009;Adimalla 2020c). In the semiarid region, soil plays a major role in weathering and aqueous leaching processes that determine the amount of F − in groundwater.…”
