“…Moreover, there are two reported zebrafish fibronectin1 mutants, natter (nat) (Trinh and Stainier, 2004), and kt259 (Koshida et al, 2005); consequently, it would be interesting to determine if they exhibit pharyngeal dentition defects. Although fibronectin was proposed to function in ameloblast and odontoblast differentiation in murine incisor tooth formation (Ruch et al, 1995;Sawada and Nanci, 1995;Tabata et al, 2003), our preliminary WISH studies with fn1 indicate that expression is absent in the fifth ceratobranchials until 4 dpf (personal observations), suggesting that FN1 may not have similar function in zebrafish pharyngeal dentitions.
