Spatial data analysis for intelligent buildings: Awareness of context and data uncertainty

Abstract: Intelligent buildings are among the most active Internet-of-Things (IoT) verticals, encompassing various IoT-enabled devices and sensing technologies for digital transformation. Analysis of spatial data, a very common type of data collected in intelligent buildings, offers a lot of insights for many purposes such as facilitating space management and enhancing the utilization efficiency of buildings. In this paper, we recognize two major challenges in spatial data analysis for intelligent buildings (SDAIB): (1)… Show more

“…Spatial awareness: This encompasses an ongoing understanding of the spatial context for human behavior, including the status of building systems (e.g., HVAC), the allocated function to multi-functional spaces, the location of resources and movable equipment, and the prevailing environmental conditions in terms of light, temperature, and acoustics. Unlike other approaches [58], this conceptualization incorporates environmental attributes since they offer critical data to evaluate space characteristics and guide their utilization.…”

“…The object-status aspect includes the dynamic features of the function object. Examples are the dynamic signals of a traffic light [ 30 ] and the opening status of a door [ 31 ]. Finally, the phase of the relation is reserved for explaining the changing movement patterns that may emerge in the interaction between pedestrians and objects.…”

“…It is rarely studied in the context of urban environments. One rare example is the status of automatic doors [ 31 ], which changes the accessibility of a walking space. Other potential statuses include engaged status and broken status.…”

“…According to B. Li, Lin, and Guo (2020), green innovation is crucial for both economic growth and environmental preservation. There is a lack of clarity about EPU and eco-friendly innovation.…”
